Vic Mensa Asks Why There Is So Much Hate Against Free Love (Audio)

Less than one month after releasing the highly-acclaimed There’s Alot Going On EP, Vic Mensa shows no signs of slowing his roll or losing his focus. The Chicago, Illinois delegate of the Roc Nation roster returns with “Free Love.” This song taps into some of the showmanship that Vic demonstrated in his years fronting band Kids These Days. Not quite a Rock song or Rap jam, this is message-music that pulls from many genres.

Within, Vic looks at North Carolina’s “bathroom bill,” and alludes to the recent massacre in Orlando, Florida. Along the way, the MC/singer repeatedly asks, “whatever happened to free love?”

Also featured on the song is longtime G.O.O.D. Music and Common affiliate Malik Yusef, “New Americana” star Halsey, and Lil B. Based God famously titled his 2011 album I’m Gay as a way to advance discussions surrounding how sexuality was looked at in Rap music.

At a time when so many of Hip-Hop’s brightest and best are driving the love movement for the 2010s, Mensa makes sure we are including everybody, as shown in his open letter on Twitter:

This song comes amidst Pride Month, and is the latest in a series of courageous musical declarations from the lyrical luminary.
