As long as we’ve heard the name “Madlib,” we’ve known the legend to be an expert crate digger. Exemplary, really. But there have been few, if any, opportunities to see the man in full excavation mode throughout his near 20 year span of providing us with the illest productions out. Luckily for you, me and the world of rarity specialists, the Beat Konducta took a trip to one of the planet’s deepest collections of Brazilian gems, and Red Bull Music Academy happened to be on hand to capture the moment for us all.
Perhaps some of you are aware NYC’s Tropicalia In Furs, where owner and Sao Paolo-native, Joel Stones, houses a massive haul of Brazilian LPs and 45s. It’s here that Madlib gets to digging and delves into what brought him to Brazilian music, with longtime Stones Throw parter-in-crime contextualizing their joint journey into that wonderful world of rhythm. You can watch it all below, just be sure to tune-in tomorrow for a new installment of Fireside Chat with Madlib, airing at 9am PST/12pm EST on RBMA Radio. If you caught his RBMA lecture, you simply won’t want to miss this. Click Below
