After being blocked to perform the national anthem back in October, Sevyn Streeter was invited back to deliver “The Star-Spangled Banner” for the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night (Dec. 16).

“I’m really excited,” she said. “I’m feeling great. I’m happy that we were able to turn an unfortunate situation into something positive,” she told ESPN before she hit the court. “I’m singing the anthem tonight. I’m wearing my ‘We Matter’ jersey. I was just able to play with kids from the Boys & Girls Club…I feel awesome.”

The 30-year-old singer did indeed wear her “We Matter” jersey, which was the cause of contention between her and the Sixers organization. The Philly basketball franchise has since apologized for the incident and have taken steps to bring a positive outcome to the situation.

Streeter felt the jersey and her salute to the Black Lives Matter movement shouldn’t have been an issue in the first place. “I think that me saying ‘We Matter’ and me singing the anthem, there’s no conflict in the two for me,” she said. “I love my country. When you love something so much, you just want it to be better.”
