With the NBA taking over Canal Street in the Big Easy, New Orleans, Louisiana, all of the stars and beautiful ones are everywhere you can look. For anyone who has been, you already know what this means: moolah and memories for street bands and those who happen to be in ear shot. Take for example the Matt Galloway Band, who, last night, earned trending topic status when Dave Chappelle and T.I. teamed up with them for an impromptu jam session.
A rare happenstance that took place in the courtyard at Rare Form on Frenchmen Street, the legendary comedian and his Grand Hustle compatriot joined the Matt Galloway Band, along with Snarky Puppy’s own Shaun Martin, Stevie Wonder’s drummer, John Roberts, and harmonica player Frederic Yonnet. According to NOLA.com, Chappelle caught the Matt Galloway Band’s performance early and resolved to return when he heard they would be back.
Chappelle even gave the group a new name after their all-star, impromptu performance: Champion Swag.
Dave is in the middle of a four-night run of sold out stand-up shows at the Saenger Theatre with Chris Tucker. Yet, this won’t be the only night where you can check out the comedy icon in action. In another Instagram post from Yonnet, Chappelle hosted another “Juke Joint” party in an undisclosed location with DJ D-Nice and DJ Trauma. If any past occurrences are any indication of what New Orleans can expect, just know that with Dave Chappelle, anything could happen.
