Nile Rodgers Produces Posthumous George Michael Groove, “Fantasy”

The legendary producer, singer-songwriter, Nile Rodgers, put his all into his funky makeover of George Michael’s 1990 b-side cut, “Fantasy”.

For hardcore George Michael fans—like our own Thembisa Mshaka—the song, “Fantasy,” is not new. But thanks to famed producer and Chic leader Nile Rodgers, the song was given new life and made the 1990 b-side groove, funky fresh.

A classic George dance riff, Rodgers adds his signature guitar riffs, some distorted Daft Punk-esque backing vocals and, of course, an epic bass line that won’t be shaken from memory any time soon. Rodgers and Michael were close over the years with the former participating in a documentary on the latter before George’s unexpected death on Christmas Day 2016.

They had played the remix while on tour with Chic this summer.

According to reports from The Guardian, George commissioned the remake shortly before his death, asking Nile to put a “new face” on the song that was originally included on his Freedom! 90 single in the U.S.
