Showtime didn’t take home any prizes at this weekend’s Golden Globes, but the premium cabler certainly won Sunday thanks to Lena Waithe’s The Chi.

While Oprah Winfrey won the 2018 Golden Globes with her possible “I’m-running-for-president-2020” speech, it was lowkey also a great night for Showtime and creative Lena Waithe. Her connected drama, The Chi, made a strong debut and made a historic notch for Showtime as it proved to be the best premiere since Billions opened last year.

A grand total of 1.68 million viewers watched The Chi, which stars Jason Mitchell (Mudbound) and Jacob Latimore, in direct competition with the Golden Globes that featured Waithe among the attendees.
