The long running hip-hop podcast The Combat Jack Show aired its final episode with a “cathartic” reunion of regulars and ex-hosts all paying tribute to Reggie Ossé.

“It was closure,” Jonathan Mena, The Combat Jack Show’s producer, said. “It’s what he would’ve wanted.” The original hosts, regulars and co-founder of the Loud Speakers Network, Chris Morrow, gathered to honor the life and legacy of Reggie “Combat Jack” Ossé with the final episode of The Combat Jack Show.

For those who don’t know, Reggie Ossé passed away of colon cancer at age 53 in late December, and with that a legend has gone home. The Combat Jack Show was a staple within hip-hop culture as they have interviewed and chronicle stories from Ice Cube, LL Cool J, Chuck D and others. With doubt on how to proceed without one of the leaders of the Newmanati, the gang gang finally decided to record a final broadcast.

Dallas Penn, Premium Pete, Just Blaze, producer A-King, social critic Jamilah Lemieux and Deric “D-Dot” Angelettie were all present and accounted for for the last episode. “It was a throwback to that barbershop talk — some people were going off on a tangent, telling stories, a little bit of everything,” Mena said. “It became therapeutic. To get everybody in the room, it was like, ‘Wow, we’re actually doing this,” Aaron “A-King” Howard said.

Ossé got his start as a hip-hop attorney who worked for Roc-a-Fella and Bad Boy Records before creating his blog, Daily Mathematics. Eventually, he switched into podcasting in 2010. The Combat Jack Show was modeled after Howard Stern’s comedic studio crew becoming one of the first major hip-hop podcasts. “I had no thought about making a living out of it,” Reggie told Billboard last September, “as much as ‘how could I compress from all the stress, and especially the corporate PTSD, I developed from years in the music industry?’”
