Even though August Alsina is not a traditional MC, Hip-Hop is a big part of his music. The Def Jam Records-backed singer follows up 2014’s Testimony with “Hip-Hop,” a single focused on the way things were when they were at their best. Nostalgic, intimate, and easy to relate to, the moment resonates with the experiences of many.

For the visual, the New Orleans, Louisiana native goes back to his own humble roots, showing family, the neighborhood, and the experience that has led him to write from the heart. The television in the video brings 2015 into the conversation, with footage of protests and police brutality. Hip-Hop is one of the voices of the people, and whether rapping or singing, all Heads should remember that.
