Black Sheep Dres A Tribe Called Quest’s Jarobi Aim To Take Hip-Hop “Higher” (Video)

In 2012, Black Sheep Dres (as he is now known) and A Tribe Called Quest co-founder Jarobi released the debut project from their unit, evitaN. At The Speed Of Life was a prime offering for the two New York MC vets. Joined by everybody from Mobb Deep’s Havoc to Bootsy Collins to Rah Digga, the LP illustrated that both creatives were still breaking new ground, approaching 25 years deep in the game.

In 2016, EvitaN (“Native” in reverse) is back in action. “Higher” (produced by Paten Locke) is an artful video that finds both linguists playing with words, and delivering them with strong emphasis. Both MCs balk at the notion that Hip-Hop is in a weak spot—showing and proving like they were brand new.

The black-and-white video is directed by Mr. Complex, who early 2000s Underground Hip-Hop Heads already know.
