ScHoolboy Q’s New Single Is Groovy But It’s Still Gangsta (Audio)

It’s been more than 2 years since ScHoolboy Q released Oxymoron, his major label debut album. However, the Top Dawg Entertainment artist has already been quite active in 2016. In March, he joined A$AP Ferg on the hard-driving “Let It Bang,” and recent leaks of snippets, as well as words from TDE label-owner Top Dawg, himself, make it clear that Q is on the move and gearing up to release his new album.

After a teaser from a video for a song called “Groovy Tony,” surfaced in February, Q releases the full version of the single. As with songs like “Break The Bank” and “Hoover St.,” the track is an eerie sonic backdrop to Quincy’s menacing vocals detailing the most ruthless gangsta tales, without a hint of mercy or remorse. “Blank face. Trey eight. Kill everybody. Fuck a AK. Sell narcotics and kick my dollars up to Bill Gates,” and those are just the opening lines. While Groovy Q might be ScHoolboy’s laid back alter ego, Groovy Tony seems to be the one informed by the gang banging past that still lurks just beneath the surface of the Hoover St. MC.
